Please join us in congratulating Dr. Cesar Escalante for his recognition by the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA) with an Honorable Mention award for the Bruce Gardner Memorial Prize for Applied Policy Analysis! This award acknowledges outstanding impact on agricultural, food, environmental, development, and other related policies, based on sound foundations in economic theory.

Not only that, he also received the 2024 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Senior Award from the Committee on Women in Agricultural Economics (CWAE), which is under the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association. Dr. Escalante was honored for his tireless efforts and decades-long success in positively impacting students, colleagues, and the profession's culture.

We extend our congratulations to Drs. Ben and Julie Campbell for being selected for the University of Georgia Office of Service-Learning Fellows Program! The competitive program aids UGA faculty in connecting with local partners in the community, as well as integrating service-learning into their courses. Dr. Julie Campbell plans to begin a program titled, " Transforming Trash into Treasure: Rescuing Spent Flowers for Hospice Patients to Enjoy," as a part of her "Floral Design and Management," course. Dr. Ben Campbell plans to add a service-learning component to his course, "Agribusiness Management," in an effort to develop skills and relationships among students.

Dixit Poudel was selected for the Diversity Fellowship for UC Berkeley Haas School of Business Summer School on Environment/Energy Economics. He also received the Best Paper Award 2023 published in Research on World Agricultural Economy Journal from the Nan Ying Academy of Sciences in Singapore! At UGA, he received both the Outstanding Ph.D. Student Award in 2024 from the Department, as well as the Outstanding Ph.D. Student Scholarship 2024 from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Alumni Association! Congratulations to Dr. Yangxuan Liu for being recognized with the Farm Foundation Emerging Leader Award, which recognizes an individual under 40 who is on the path to making a change within the agricultural and food industries. Dr. Liu conducts research primarily on cotton and peanuts helping Georgia producers utilize their agricultural inputs in a manner that maximizes efficiency and profitability. She was spotlighted in this CAES Newswire article, CAES economist recognized as emerging leader for work supporting farmers!

Congratulations to Beatrice Robson for her acceptance to the FFAR (Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research) Fellowship, which funds 48 graduate students over three years to aid in approaching career readiness. Data visualization congratulations go to Ph.D. student Sanchita Chakrovorty, who was part of the Southeast Region team that won 2nd place in the 2024 Local Food Economics Data Visualization Challenge, organized by the AAEA - Agricultural & Applied Economics Association and USDA-Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS). Sanchita and her team focused on identifying the "SNAP gap" in Local and Regional Food Systems (LRFS), using advanced data visualization techniques to highlight opportunities for increasing EBT-accepting farmers markets in SNAP hotspots across the Southeast. Their innovative approach not only demonstrated their exceptional skills in data analysis but also underscored the important role our department plays in addressing critical issues in agricultural and food economics. Congratulations to Sanchita on this well-deserved recognition and for honing her data visualization skills!

Sanchita also received two awards from UGA, the Graduate Accelerator Award and the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award from the Center for Teaching and Excellence. From the Association of Economic and Development Studies on Bangladesh she received a travel award. Her dedication to teaching and research clearly shows with these accolades.
