Summary of Dissertation, Expertise, and Agenda
My research focuses on quantifying the price impacts of agricultural commodity production and supply chain disruptions, and how these dynamics affect stakeholders such as field crop and livestock producers, purchasers, and the broader economy. My dissertation, titled ‘Three Essays on the U.S. Agricultural Supply Chain,’ explores various facets of this topic. One chapter investigates the economic consequences of transportation disruptions caused by weather shocks, particularly focusing on the Mississippi River barge backup. Another chapter addresses the logistical challenges in the Southeast’s agricultural markets, analyzing rail demand for field crops. Finally, in my job market paper, I measure agricultural supply news shocks and estimate their nationwide effects, offering broader insights for both the agricultural market and the macroeconomy.
