Year in Review

This academic year was yet another one for the books. We had our second-annual Pumpkin Painting Contest (with the Environmental Economics and Management Club obtaining a two-peat), as well as started two new competitions. The Pareto Cup, named after Pareto Efficiency, an economic term in which at least one person can be made better off without harming the other, was celebrated by faculty, staff, and graduate students. We also held our inaugural Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, where graduate students present their research with one slide in three minutes. Students were able to travel to Uruguay and Greece for study aborad trips studying economics and agribusiness. We also had many fantastic speaker events. For example, in February, students had the opportunity to take a van to Atlanta to discuss inflation and how it is affecting our agriculture industry with a bit of Georgia and National politics intertwined. We also had our 34th annual Ziemer Lecture, where students learned of disaster-induced migration from Dr. Sathya Gopalakrishnan from the Ohio State University. We also had lots of time for celebration, including graduation and our 21st annual Conner Connects. Finally, we had over 110 students graduate across our undergraduate majors and graduate programs. We congratulate all our recent graduates, welcome to the Ag Dawg Alumni family. We are excited for another acaemic year to begin and to celebrate with all of you.
