About
Mateusz Filipski is an applied economist whose research spans the areas of development, environmental, and health economics. Prior to joining UGA, he was a Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), where he still serves as a Non-Resident Fellow.
He has published extensively on a variety of applied topics including rural transformation, migration, technology adoption, health insurance, impacts of COVID-19, and more. Much of his research evaluates the economic impacts of programs and policies aimed at improving the lives of rural populations. He uses both econometric and structural modeling methodologies to shed light on those issues. His most recent focus countries have been Ethiopia, China, and Myanmar.
Mateusz spent his formative years in Europe and is a consummate traveler. He speaks French, Polish, English, Spanish, and has a working knowledge of Mandarin.
Mateusz is currently on leave from UGA working as a Senior Economist on the Returns, ReCommerce, and Sustainability team at Amazon.
