CAES Young Scholars Program
Dr. Ben Campbell is hosting two young scholars this summer: Maya Brantly is a graduate from Oconee County High School and is a UGA rising first year in our Agribusiness program. Nicholas Xu is a rising senior at SKA Academy of Art and Design and he wants to pursue a degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics at UGA.
The Young Scholars Program (YSP) is a paid six-week summer internship opportunity for high school students interested in agricultural, food, and environmental sciences. Selected students work 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, actively engaged in research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. YSP aims to expose selected students to college life and encourage them to apply to the University of Georgia, especially CAES.
Additionally, the program aims to build good relationships with faculty and serve as the school of choice for the selected promising students.
YSP concludes each year with a three-day collegiate conference on campus. Students have the opportunity to meet other Young Scholars from the Griffin and Tifton campuses, learn about the UGA admissions process and explore the campus. This year, UGA Athens selected 23 students to participate in the program which runs June 2 through July 14.
