Study Abroad
2nd Annual Cuba Maymester Study Abroad
On May 21st, 16 Students went with Drs. Ferreira and Salazar to study sustainability, food insecurity, tourism, and Cuba’s economic transition. The two-week course began in the nation’s capital of Havana, where the students learned about Cuba’s history alongside its political, economic, and health care systems.
The uniqueness of Cuba’s study abroad class while in Havana is being housed by host families. Students and faculty have the opportunity to live with these families and experience the culture and food firsthand like no other.
Guest speakers, touring neighborhoods, the Museum of the Revolution, Hemingway Museum, and farm tours were just a few of the items on the agenda. The coffee plantation ruins, tobacco farm, San Juan River, hike up Cristo lookout point, and then the ferry ride across Havana Bay were more highlights enjoyed by all.
As you can tell, it was the trip of a lifetime with tons of memories made with new and lasting friendships!
